Reading Habit Tracker

A reading habit tracker helps you read a little every day instead of in rare bursts. In HabitLine, add a daily "Read" habit with an evening reminder, and set a goal such as "Read 12 books this year" with a milestone per book.

How to track reading in HabitLine

  1. Create a habit and choose Build as its type, then give it an icon, colour and category.
  2. Set the frequency to Daily.
  3. Turn on a reminder for evening, before you would normally pick up your phone.
  4. Set a goal duration: Ongoing; review monthly in Statistics.
  5. Add rules: “10 pages or 15 minutes counts”, “Book, not phone, in bed”.
  6. Mark each scheduled day as done, skipped or failed, and watch the streak in Statistics.

Why track reading?

Reading competes with every screen in the house. A daily check-in and a goal with book-by-book milestones make progress visible across the year.

Tips that help

  • Pick a minimum that is easy on a tired day, like 10 pages.
  • Keep the current book where you sit in the evening.
  • Link the habit to a yearly book goal so each finished book is a milestone.
  • Use quick notes for quotes and ideas you want to keep.

Turn it into a goal

Create a goal called “Read 12 books this year”, link this habit to it and add milestones:

  • Book 3
  • Book 6
  • Book 9
  • Book 12

Log it in one press

Put the habit on a key with the HabitLine Stream Deck plugin to mark it done without opening the app. The free plan covers up to 5 habits; Premium is unlimited.

Common questions

Should I track pages or minutes?

Either works. Pick one minimum and write it as a rule on the habit, then mark the day done when you hit it.

Can I track a yearly reading goal?

Yes. Create a goal with a target date of 31 December and add a milestone for each book or every few books.

Is HabitLine free?

Yes. The free plan never expires and includes 5 habits, 3 goals, 3 tasks, 5 journal entries and 1 project. Premium removes those limits and adds the full calendar view for $4.99/month, $49.90/year or $149 once.

Do I need an account to use HabitLine?

No. HabitLine runs in guest mode with your data stored locally on your PC. Signing in is optional and syncs your habits, goals, tasks and settings across your Windows PCs.
